With the 2012 Election looming: The Question is – What is “Presidential”?

Article Mirror

October 31, 2012
By

In the past few days, we have been treated to a litany of speeches and sound bytes … lies and gaffes but the image of president will all come down to one thing…

So just what is presidential?

That is the question we must ask ourselves.  What is a leader of this nation supposed to be?

One who spins bald faced lies and uses them repeatedly in commercials?

Even Chrysler calls Romney out on his outright lie as reported here.

OR is it someone like we see here?  The candidate as President – cancelling speeches and appearances;  stopping his campaigning in order to act.  Who spends his remaining week before elections with the people.

Do we support the candidate Romney who refuses to answer for his statements on FEMA?  The one who sets up a “photo op” at the last minute with a quick “support” effort (supporting Romney’s  ”LOOK at ME!” “aren’t-I-a-caring-humanitarian-afterall” effort) in Ohio?  A photo op hastily put together in an attempt to counter “Mitt the would-be FEMA destroyer” and to show Mitt as a “humanitarian”.

Mitt even refuses to address his comments – his stance on dismantling FEMA the only program that actually organizes and offers immediate assistance for the people on a national scale.

OR do we support the candidate that works diligently…PRESIDENTIALLY…in a time of crisis, so that even his greatest detractors give praise?

We can wrangle and kvetch, bluster and brag all we want – we can complain that we aren't pulling in big bucks after 4 years of trial with a tanked economy just barely…barely keeping its head above water with a Congress stacking the odds against the people.

BUT, for my money, I know who I would want covering my back.

It isn't the bravado and the nonsense;  It isn't someone who has no experience in national and international affairs ; it isn't the guy who flip-flops on every position and will say ANYTHING in order to get a vote; It isn’t the guy that shouts fire in a theater (going to Ohio and claiming Chrysler is moving to China when the people are JUST starting to get a sense of security back)

As a screaming liberal and pragmatist, I have to say, that when it comes to decisive and humanitarian response;  When it comes to quick thinking and setting priorities for the people, there is only one candidate in the race and one candidate who is the clear choice.

I am throwing behind the guy who is “presidential”.

Brutal: New Dem Video Obliterates GOP for claims the War on Women is a myth, in just 30 seconds

Article Mirror

While dismissing any idea of their being a GOP initiated War on Women, Republicans have boldly stated that the concept is in our imaginations. The following video made by a Democratic Super PAC just one week before the election, uses Mitt Romney and his colleagues own words to display that there has been a ridiculous assault on women’s rights.

From shutting down Planned Parenthood to “legitimate rape,” GOP candidates are waging a war on women.

Remember, Mitt Romney chose Paul Ryan as his veep choice. Rep. Ryan has an atrocious record on women’s health issues.

FOIA Report Shows How Mitt Romney Avoided Paying Taxes For 15 Years

Article Mirror

October 29, 2012
By

Bloomberg News confirmed through using a Freedom of Information Act request that Mitt Romney set up a charitable remainder unitrust (CRUT) in June 1996 just before Congress cracked down on the loophole in 1997. While Republicans have extolled Romney for his charitable donations, most of them are contributions to the Mormon Church, and according to this, the church will likely receive even less than the primary donation, while he is benefiting.

Individuals who had already set up these vehicles were allowed to keep them. That included Mitt Romney, then the chief executive officer of Bain Capital, who had just established such an arrangement in June 1996.

“In this instance, Romney used the tax-exempt status of a charity — the Mormon Church, according to a 2007 filing — to defer taxes for more than 15 years,” Bloomberg’s Jesse Drucker explained. “At the same time he is benefitting, the trust will probably leave the church with less than what current law requires.”

While Romney’s tax avoidance is legal, it’s still questionable since he has refused to release his tax returns.

“The main benefit from a charitable remainder trust is the renting from your favorite charity of its exemption from taxation,” Blattmachr said. Despite the name, giving a gift or getting a charitable deduction “is just a throwaway,” he said. “I used to structure them so the value dedicated to charity was as close to zero as possible without being zero.”

(my bold)

When individuals fund a charitable remainder unitrust, or “CRUT,” they defer capital gains taxes on any profit from the sale of the assets, and receive a small upfront charitable deduction and a stream of yearly cash payments.

As the article explains Romney’s CRUT,  is only a small part of the $250 million that Romney’s campaign cites as his net worth, and has been paying him 8 percent of its assets each year. “As the Romneys have received these payments, the money that will potentially be left for charity has declined from at least $750,000 in 2001 to $421,203 at the end of 2011.”

Jesse Drucker wrote a detailed article surrounding Mitt Romney’s tax avoidance, which I urge you to read.

It’s Not Just Mitt: GOP Strategist Says Romney is Right, No One Cares About FEMA

Article Mirror

October 29, 2012
By

Hurricane Sandy is barreling down on the east coast while a video is circulating which displays Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s aversion to FEMA. During the Presidential debate, Romney stated his desire to close down the program.

To confirm Romney’s point of view with a disaster program, GOP strategist Ron Bonjean chimes in on CNN, “..most people don’t have a positive impression of FEMA, and I think Mitt Romney is right on the button.  I don’t think anybody cares about that right now.”

This is akin to Romney wanting to repeal ObamaCare yet, has nothing to replace it with. Just gut it. It’s not just Mitt Romney — it’s the Republican Party.

FYI: If the sequester takes place, FEMA will be hit with nearly $900 million in tax cuts.

Big thanks to AmericaBlog for the video.

Mittsania: How to Keep Lying Even When You’re Caught, Romney-style

Article Mirror

October 29, 2012
By

Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney is running with what he has to know is a lie — and if he doesn’t, then we should question that also. With Romney’s new ad out in Ohio stating, “Who will do more for the auto industry? Not Barack Obama” the candidate conveniently ‘forgets’ that this is  – and has been for some time — the age of the Internet.

Romney’s recent lies, which were made to enhance his momentum in Ohio, have been bashed by the Internet and media. Still yet, if a lie is repeated often enough, the Romney campaign is well aware that eventually it will be taken as fact.

In Romney’s words:

After being called out on this blatant lie, a spokesman for the candidate declined to answer questions about the  incorrect reading of a news report that Chrysler was considering moving all Jeep production to China.

And yet, the Romney-Ryan campaign feigns to be harmed by President Obama’s supposed ‘attacks’ on the duo’s campaign. If calling out lies is hurting them, then too bad.

Detroit Free Press reports:

Romney’s comments came late Thursday in Defiance, Ohio, just hours after the Free Press reported that 1,100 new Chrysler workers will help boost production of the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango SUVs in Detroit beginning next week.

As reported here by Julie Driscoll, Romney doesn’t lie like a  politician; he lies like a Sociopath.

“In fact, Chrysler is investing $500 million at its Toledo North Assembly Plant and plans to add 1,105 new workers by the third quarter of 2013 to build an all-new SUV that will replace the Jeep Liberty.”

Romney opposed providing government loans to the car companies, whereas President Obama helped them. That’s a fact.

Busted Again: Second Woman Steps Forward Alleging Affair with Tea Party Congressman

Article Mirror

October 28, 2012
By

The scandal surrounding Rep. Scott DesJarlais (R-Tenn) is growing. Information previously obtained by FreakOutNation on October 10th, resulted in evidence of DeJarlais’ affair with a patient; the transcript provided, unearthed a back and forth with DeJarlais prompting the lady into an abortion. For the record: DesJarlais is a ‘pro-life’ tea party backed Congressman. Rep. Scott DesJarlais is a doctor and was elected in 2010 as part of the Tea Party wave that swept the House.

Previously DeJarlais was plagued with allegations of violence in his 2001 divorce, and somehow, was still voted into office by ‘pro-family’ Tea Partiers who breathed a breath of stale air into the Republican party. At the present time, DesJarlais is seeking a second run for Congress.

Another woman has just acknowledged having a sexual relationship with the Congressman, while under his care. The woman describes him as using illicit drugs, and “all that stuff.”

TimesFreePress Reports:

“In a prepared statement Saturday, his campaign did not dispute any specific allegations by the woman, instead condemning “personal smear campaigns that hurt families” and “have no place in politics.”

So, by not disputing the transcript (which I read myself and it’s pretty damning) or this woman’s claims, he’s asserting that uncovering his hypocrisy, “Hurts families.”

The second woman described DessJarlais as “the nicest guy” and continued on to note that they smoked marijuana during their relationship and remembered DesJarlais prescribing her pain medication on dates at his home.

“His biggest thing that’s completely unethical is him just picking up women while he’s a doctor,” the woman said in an interview last week. “I mean, seriously, that’s his big no-no. … He’s just a hound.”

The woman said the affair lasted six months and included mutual illicit drug use.
“Scott was just a regular guy,” she said. “He smoked. I mean, he smoked pot. He [did] all that stuff.”

The woman states that she kept DesJarlais as her doctor for some time after the affair, but sought a different doctor after he kept trying to rekindle their relationship in settings outside his office.

On Saturday, Eric Stewart’s campaign manager Kevin Teets said the woman’s account would continue to bolster his boss, who for the first time eclipsed DesJarlais in the most recent fundraising period.

“It’s clear from this further revelation that Scott DesJarlais has many issues. We hope he’s able to get the help he so clearly needs,” Teets said. “However, the people of the 4th District deserve a congressman like Eric, ready to roll up his sleeves and get to work tackling the many issues facing our country.”

Eric Stewart is running against Rep. DesJarlais and seeks to accomplish bipartisan goals in Congress. Stewart’s focus is on education, the economy and jobs, and helping working families as well as retirees.

Romney spins the Neo-Con “Noble Lie”

Article Mirror

October 28, 2012
By

“…those in power must invent noble lies and pious frauds to keep the people in the stupor for which they are supremely fit..” (Leo Strauss and the Grand Inquisitor by Shadia B. Drury)

As evidenced this week in the latest Romney lie made viral, Mitt Romney proves, again, to have no moral center nor respect for the American people. He proves, again, that the Neo-conservative method of gaining power is his campaign, He proves again he will stop at nothing – no lie too big, too small, too outrageous to be used in order to commit the on-going agenda to promote the plutocracy and destroy the middle class.

From the video of his speech:

Mitt Romney Campaign Rally in Defiance, OH – October 25 2012 – The Big Lie – Chrysler Jeep moving to China – YouTube22

He gets handed a lie and runs with it then surrounds it with pandering bullshit (“There are good Democrats who love this country…..”  implying that Obama is what? A “bad Democrat” that doesn’t?), ruminating incoherency, and more spin than the front wheel of Lance Armstrong’s bike.

This isn’t new for Mitt, nor for Paul Ryan, his boy toy running mate.  Romney was caught in the 2nd debate with his lie about Obama’s comments on Benghazi….

Mitt, apparently, pays attention to talking points more than reality.

In the Rose garden…

and again in Golden, CO,  the following day…

While Ryan  offered  6 full bore whoppers during his address to the GOP body at the convention

From the ThinkProgress article:

Here are the most glaring lies from his speech:

1. “A downgraded America.” Ryan blamed the president for the nation’s credit downgrade in August 2011 after Republicans threatened to allow the government to default on its debt for the first time in history. But the ratings agency explicitly blamed “Republicans saying that they refuse to accept any tax increases as part of a larger deal.”

2. “More debt than any other president before him, and more than all the troubled governments of Europe combined.” Romney has made the almost identical claim, that Obama has amassed more debt “as almost all of the other presidents combined.” But their math doesn't add up: when Obama took office, the national debt was $10.626 trillion. It has increased to slightly above $15 trillion.

3. Shuttered General Motors plant is “one more broken promise.” Ryan described a GM plant that closed down in his hometown, Janesville, Wisconsin, and blamed Obama for breaking his promise to keep the plant open when he visited during his campaign. But Obama never made that promise, and the plant shut down in December 2008, before Obama even took office.

4. Obama “did exactly nothing” on Bowles-Simpson. Ryan said, “He created a bipartisan debt commission. They came back with an urgent report. He thanked them, sent them on their way, and then did exactly nothing.” In fact, Ryan was instrumental in sabotaging the commission, leading the other House Republicans in voting against the plan.

5. “$716 billion, funneled out of Medicare by President Obama.” Ryan’s favorite lie is a deliberate distortion of Obamacare’s savings from eliminating inefficiencies. Furthermore, Ryan’s own plan for Medicare includes these savings. Romney has vowed to restore these cuts, which would render the trust fund insolvent 8 years ahead of schedule.

6. “The greatest of all responsibilities is that of the strong to protect the weak.” Ryan closed the speech with an invocation of social responsibility, saying, “The truest measure of any society is how it treats those who cannot defend or care for themselves.” However, numerous clergy members have condemned Ryan’s budget plan as “cruel,” and “an immoral disaster” because of its devastating cuts in social programs the poor and sick rely on. Meanwhile, Ryan would give ultra-rich individuals and corporations $3 trillion in tax breaks.

Then there is the “binders full of women”  debacle as Romney tried, during the 2nd debate,  to spin the facts of MassGAP and the women’s organizations that actually did all the leg work creating the binders that were to go to whomever won that gubernatorial election (the Huffington Post joined, The Washington Post as well as Salon in reporting the statements of MassGAP and the women who actually were involved in the real process of locating educated and qualified women for positions in the new administration – both before and after the election)…

The 20% across the board tax cut that now isn't…

The Obama cut production of oil lie…

I have to ask, are voters really buying this bullshit?  Apparently some are – those voters who imagine themselves to be in the magical 53% that Romney held out in his more than obvious contempt towards America.  They might be surprised to find out Paul Ryan and Mitt Romney care as much about them as the crap scrape off their shoes after walking through an Iowa stock barn….  Maybe less.

Mitt has been caught in lie after lie, rewriting history and  his positions, in every speech made, interview shown and all along the campaign trail.  Romney hasn't made a statement that he hasn’t changed; seen a fact that he hasn't ignored nor heard a lie that he doesn’t promote.  To be honest, I suspect it isn't all Mitt. he just isn't that smart but he does have his advisers from the Bush neo-conning years.

Sadly, critical thinking seems to get lost while the appeal to hostility and fear  has become the prime objective.  In the media, on the stage or when given a venue of any kind,  Romney and Ryan, like Sarah Palin before them, and Bush and Cheney (with a Rove chaser) before them insure that  facts are ignored, history rewritten, lies promoted and frauds perpetrated …

Whatever it takes to best scare the fuck out of people in order to gain and maintain power at all costs.

Because that, after all, is the goal of the “Noble Lie”

Obama Campaign Ad Tries to Name All of Mitt Romney’s Massachusetts Taxes & Fees in 30 Seconds

Article Mirror

October 27, 2012

Since Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney has not been specific on his tax plan, the Obama campaign has a new ad out, which gets into specifics about his time as Governor in Massachusetts.

In this new ad, the Obama campaign takes on the task of attempting to see if they can list all of the taxes and fees Mitt Romney increased on small businesses and the middle class.

It was quite an undertaking, but John McCain’s words came to the rescue.

Mitt & Ryan’s Preexisting Condition: While Campaigning Both Publicly Hallucinated a Bipartisan Congress

Article Mirror

October 27, 2012
By

Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney and his veep choice Paul Ryan should both embrace Obamacare. The duo are plagued with preexisting conditions, one of them being hallucinations. It’s sad really.

Several times the duo have blamed President Obama for not reaching across the aisle, most recently in the form of a new ad. While the irony meter is blowing another gasket, let’s recall the past two years. Let’s start on the eve of Barack Obama’s inauguration.

As reported here, a highly revealing book, The New New Deal: The Hidden Story of Change in the Obama Era, authored by Michael Grunwald, gives the public a glaring glimpse into the Republican Party’s agenda. New excerpts have just been published which highlight the clandestine meeting with Republican leaders in attendance, led by GOP Whip Eric Cantor in 2008. Paul Ryan, the ideological rock star of the right and newly minted veep choice for Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, also attended — each swore to obstruct anything, everything the President tries to accomplish — in lockstep, partisan-style.

Paul Ryan has been bitterly partisan, yet has the balls to blame Obama for his own ineptness.

During the first Presidential debate and several times thereafter Mitt Romney claimed that during his time as Governor, he was bipartisan.

Sarah Jones from PoliticusUSA reports:

History tells another story. In 2006, his last year as Massachusetts’ Governor (in which he was absent more than half of the year), Romney issued 250 vetoes, all of which were overturned by what the Romney camp dubbed a “hostile” legislature. It’s not just Democrats who didn't get along with Romney, though.

At the first Presidential debate, Romney said, “I figured out from Day 1 I had to get along, and I had to work across the aisle to get anything done.” But Romney liked vetoes so much, he used his vetoes in an ad titled “I like vetoes” during his 2008 run.

Mr. Man likes vetoes so much that he made an ad about them during his 2008 run.

In July 2011, as reported here, President Obama was offering a debt ceiling deal with far less revenue than the bipartisan ‘Gang of Six’ — Harry Reid is offered an all-cuts deal that would make any Republican weep tears of joy — but, the Tea Party-led House still said no. And ‘no’ is all we’ve heard from House Republicans since they took control of the House.

March of this year, John Boehner so far has collected $742,000 to defend DOMA, and that money was skimmed from funds that would normally go toward House officer and employee salaries.

And this, House Republicans agreed to a new contract to pay a private law firm up to $1.5 million to defend the Defense of Marriage Act, which bans same-sex marriage on the federal level.

DOMA, the freaking anti-equality outlet which Republicans hold dear, before the gay folks come and eat their babies’ faces. There has never been such a misinformed bunch of politicians.

From the debt ceiling to equality, to spending cuts, to health care — nothing has been bipartisan from their side of the aisle with the exception of President Obama, much to the dismay of many Democrats.

And now, they are whining because finally, Obama has put his foot down on tax revenue. Last time, they held repealing Don't Ask, Don't Tell, hostage, so that tax cuts would be afforded to the wealthy again. Bush himself set those cuts to expire.

Now Mitt, tell us about bipartisanship again and how you're going to accomplish that? Or is he too busy signing pledges authored by Grover Norquist?

The few examples I gave, only skim the surface. President Obama has had to wade in with the opposition, while outside, Tea Partiers held signs reading, “Taxed Enough Already”. But that was after Obama lowered their taxes.

Republicans have solely been focused on abortion and same sex marriage without a thought to the economy and jobs. Funny isn't it (just not ha ha funny) that while Mitt beats the war drums toward five different countries, he puts on his ‘concerned face’ while campaigning to give vouchers to the elderly. In Mitt and Ryan’s eyes, we can’t afford to take care of our own, but we can afford war.

But, ‘It’s Obama’s fault’ right?

This doesn't end on the upcoming Presidential election. Obama said — and I was reminded of this recently by Freak’s admin,@ComgenKDT — “Yes We Can.” He did not say, “I can.”

Clean out Congress and let’s move this country Forward.

Hey Mitt, you can keep Meat Loaf: Will.i.am produced a grassroots song & video, ‘Forward’

Have you wondered why the word, ‘Forward’ became so offensive to Republicans? Think about it.

New Ad ‘Remember’ hits Mitt: Romney’s plan rolls back regulations on the banks that crashed our economy

Article Mirror

A new Obama television ad, “Remember,” was just released which will air in Florida, Ohio, Virginia and Iowa. In the ad, the narrator recalls Republican Presidential candidate Mitt  Romney’s vision for America — before voters go to the polls on election day.

The narrator hits Romney on key issues such as, “Think about this, Mitt Romney’s plan rolls back regulations on the banks that crashed our economy. Medicare, voucherized” and a few other important key issues are touched upon in this effective ad obviously targeting undecided voters.

Watch:

Voters tend to have a short memory, or so it seems. We do not need a lawless Wall Street/Big Banks, unaccountable to the very people that bailed them out.

Another Romney Investment: 25,000 jobs lost, buys Factories in China, costs workers $1 billion in pensions

Article Mirror

October 26, 2012
By

Mitt Romney is running his campaign as a ‘tough on China Job Creator’ but what we've witnessed is not proof of his assertion. Again. Another one. Delphi Automotive completed its acquisition of FCI Group’s motorized vehicles unit for 765 million euros ($987.5 million), Business Week reports.

FCI is another Bain affiliated company. Bain Capital, which Mitt Romney founded.

DailyKos reports:

Delphi had fired 25,000 union workers, costing those workers about $1 billion from their pensions. Instead of using its extra capital to do right by the American worker, Delphi just finished buying factories in Asia that make car parts, for the same amount of money Delphi cost those workers’ pensions:

.As The Nation has reported, Mitt Romney made a fortune off of the auto-bailout by investing in Delphi and screwing those workers.

It gets even murkier. As pointed out by The Nation, all Delphi’s stockholders—the Romneys included—had to do to ease the burden on their workers was to emulate GM and pay up.

Making good on the full pensions for salaried workers would cost Delphi a one-time charge of less than $1 billion. This year, Delphi was flush with $1.4 billion in cash—meaning its owners could have made the pensioners whole ?and still cleared a profit. Instead, in May, Delphi chose to use most of those funds to take over auto parts plants in Asia at a cost of $972 million—purchased from Bain Capital.

The Delphi deal was just finalized today which happens to be the very same day that Republican Presidential candidate Romney falsely claimed that Jeep is moving U.S. production to China.

DKos reports, “Even more ironically, in March 2009, Delphi held the U.S. car industry hostage (even jeopardizing Chrysler the maker of Jeep autos).”

But, the former Governor claims he is going to create jobs in America, while his past, and those he is affiliated with are proving otherwise. It’s never been about the economy, stupid.

Meanwhile, the economy is slowly recovering, but Romney claims it’s not fast enough.

These ‘people’ — the Corporations — are not the job creators.

GOP Deputy Chair likens Lena Dunham’s ‘Your First Time’ Obama ad to Satan and Putin

Article Mirror

A young woman, Lena Dunham – the creator of the TV show “Girls –  talks about her first time voting in a new Obama ad, and why she’s voting for President Obama. Ms. Dunham is an intelligent young lady, which could be the reason for the clamorous objections to the ad from Republicans.

But one objection stands our more than others.

Joe.My.God caught the tweet from the Deputy Chair of the Minnesota Republican Party Kelly Fenton, who likens the ad to similarities with Satan and Putin.

This beautiful and intelligent young woman is obviously a devil worshipping Satanist who partakes in blood rituals, in order for Obama (the Antichrist. Duh!) to take over the world with Vladimir Putin — and why not Putin!

It’s all so clear now.

Video Source: http://youtu.be/o6G3nwhPuR4

Breitbart.com via Balloon Juice:

So she chose to do it for the first time with Barack Obama, since he “cares about and understands women.” In fact, he understands them so well that he exploits them for insane commercials comparing losing your virginity with voting. Obama has young daughters. But that didn't stop him from releasing this commercial. Because this is what Obama thinks of your daughters. This is Obama’s official campaign ad. Paid for with his campaign money. Distributed by his campaign. If this ad were any more demeaning to women—who apparently care only about having sex, if you listen to Lena “You Want To Do It” Dunham—it would be produced by Bill Maher and star Bill Clinton.

So, Obama is coming for our women! And guns, from what I've heard/read. What are we to do. Vote for Romney, who will simply keep women in their place — but at least they’ll be safe from the scary black man. Right?
